About Me

About This Project

Dedications and Thanks

Hey visitors!

I'm Olivia, currently a mere few days and a physics final away from graduating from the University of Michigan with a degree in Public Policy focusing on Peace, Justice, and Equality and a Minor in Writing.

I was born and raised in New York City, where I'm moving back to begin my "adult" life. Thankfully, I got a full time job so I don't have to develop a more prominent personality trait that being from the city, as a teacher at a nonprofit-operated charter school founded to combat racial inequality in public schools, hoping to continue my passions for social justice and good policy as I begin my career.

When I'm not writing or talking about myself, I'm probably making a new playlist, reading up on current events and politics, drinking coffee, or hanging out with my friends, sister, and parents.

I dabble in yoga and photography (preferably hot vinyasa and film respectively), and I'm a retired softball player and avid Yankee fan. My current favorite author is Haruki Murakami, my intellectual, romantically poetic persona adores F. Scott Fitzgerald, and my guilty pleasure is the Harry Potter series. I'm a Sagittarius, I dyed my hair pink during quarantine, I recently perfected a headstand, and after careful deliberation, I do indeed think Carole Baskin killed her husband.

This project was completed during the Winter 2020 semester as a my Capstone project for the Sweetland Center's Minor in Writing. Although all work presented is my own, I couldn't have accomplished all of this without the support of T, our incredible professor, my classmates, and the writing minor community.

T- I can't thank you enough, for your encouragement, support, positivity, and honesty. I knew you were going to be incredible when you walked in with blue hair, and you exceeded my expectations.

My fellow "writers!!!!" and capstoners- you are all talented beyond belief, and I cannot wait to see what you all go on to accomplish. Thank you for putting up with my nonsense. I will miss the Tote Bag Reading Series dearly—perhaps most of all the long gaps after T asks if any one wants to read, because it is a unique, pleasant awkwardness for me, one defined by T's open-eyed, overjoyed prompting that precipitates an inevitably stunning piece one of you miraculously scribbled in minutes. I am lucky to have such talented friends. And to Syd and Max, who have been doing this with me from the start—thank you for reading so many of my words. I can't wait to go from reading your college words to your life words.

To my family, I love you always. A huge thank you to my parents for supporting me and my education, financially and in every other way too. I'm lucky to have parents who can be my best friends as an adult, and who still let me act like your kid.

To my little sister, Julia. You're my favorite person in the world and the coolest person I know. I'm so proud of you and every day, you amaze me more than the last.

And most importantly, to Poppy Shell. In everything I do, I hope to make you proud. I don't know where you are and if you're anywhere, and I don't know what I believe. But knowing you are with me, regardless, is enough. I love you forever and always.
